Sounds from around the world, with Lopa Kothari, including a specially recorded studio session by the Dele Sosimi Afrobeat orchestra.
Afrobeat is the blend of jazz, funk and traditional Nigerian music that was pioneered by the late Fela Kuti. Dele Sosimi played keyboards in Fela Kuti's group Egypt 80 from 1979 to 1986, recording a string of influential and highly charged anti-establishment songs such as Movement of the People, Army Arrangement, and International Thief Thief. Following work with Fela Kuti's son Femi in the Positive Force, Dele moved from Lagos to London where he has developed his own jazz-influenced sound rooted in the Yoruba rhythms of the Afrobeat tradition. Dele Sosimi sings and plays keyboard in his Afrobeat Orchestra, a substantial 11-piece outfit including horn section and backing vocalists.
