Claire Martin presents a concert set by guitarist John Goldie, given at the Recital Room, City Hall, Glasgow. While playing a function gig, John was spotted by the musical director of a visiting Motown act from the US and was asked to be guitarist on its next UK tour.

This was to be the start of many tours and work as a session player including for CDs, radio and TV shows. A chance meeting with guitarist Martin Taylor and a subsequent invitation to perform together led to a dramatic change in the direction of his career.

Not only did this collaboration lead to the award-winning group Spirit of Django, several CDs, tours and concerts at venues like Ronnie Scott's, but it was also the spark which ignited the solo career John now enjoys. John is also a member of the Scottish Guitar Group which tours extensively around Europe.

Claire also spotlights the 2009 Wigan Jazz Festival, talking to Ian Darrington, musical director of the Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra.
