Ian McKellen returns to the RSC after 17 years to play King Lear in Trevor Nunn’s production for the RSC. It also features Frances Barber as Goneril and Romola Garai as Cordelia. It is the closing production of The Complete Works Festival.
Beyond Belief
An exhibition of new work by Damien Hirst is at The White Cube In London. Works include a human skull encrusted with over 8 thousand flawless diamonds and twelve new sculptures including a black calf with its body pierced by arrows entitled ‘Saint Sebastian, Exquisite Pain’ and a triptych featuring three flayed and crucifed sheep entitled ‘God Alone Knows’.

Dave Eggers’ new book is based on the real life story of Valentino Achak Deng, a Sudanese refugee and member of the Lost Boys of Sudan program.

Water
This film by Deepa Mehta depicts the treatment of widows by Hindu fundamentalists. It completes Mehta’s ‘elemental’ trilogy. According to Mehta “Fire is about the politics of sexuality, Earth is about the politics of nationalism and Water is about the politics of religion."
