Series in which oenophile Oz Clarke takes novice James May on a month's trip to France to learn about wine. Oz wants James to learn about the French concept of terroir, a catch-all way of describing the many factors that can influence the quality of a vineyard and hence the quality of a wine. Their first stop is the Rangen vineyard in Alsace, one of the steepest in Europe with excellent terroir. This is followed by a visit to Domaine Weinbach, producer of top quality Alsace reislings.
