Terence Stamp narrates a series on the assimilation and development of jazz in Britain over the past 60 years. Two distinct scenes emerged in the late 1940s - trad jazz and modern jazz. Postwar Britain saw issues of class, race and the first stirrings of youth rebellion collide in the underground jazz clubs of Soho.

Key players included Ronnie Scott, Humphrey Lyttelton, Acker Bilk, Tubby Hayes, Joe Harriott, Chris Barber and Stan Tracey.
