When your wedding is called off but you still have your big day

6 December 2019

Sophie’s plan A was shopping for her dream wedding dress. But after the decision was made to cancel the wedding, she decided to turn the sadness of the break up into a positive plan B….

I want to make something beautiful out of something very sad

“I have this amazing photographer, and now rather than having my wedding photoshoot, I’m going to have this incredible fashion photoshoot in the place I was going to get married”, says Sophie.

Wedding dress shop owner, Samantha Buca says, “It’s just a great idea. I think more people should do that because it’s closure and it’s going to make you feel amazing!”

Sophie reflects on her relationship "Maybe what you had was amazing and that's all it was meant to be, and maybe some things aren't meant to last forever, and it is devastating."

There may not be a wedding, but there will be a great dress

Sophie's wedding was cancelled but Samm helps her find the perfect dress for her big day.

Despite finding herself in this situation, Sophie looks back fondly at her relationship "He's incredible … we just fell for each other.

"We lived together for about four and a half years. I don't regret a second, I don't. It was an amazing, amazing few years we had together.

"I was a very enthusiastic bride. As soon as we booked the date we went to every wedding showcase, we went to every wedding fair, we had bagpipes booked, we had the band booked, everything down to hair and makeup booked. Every bit of emotion goes into something like planning a wedding" she says.

"We were going to get married, we thought we were going to be together forever, but I think it just sort of, I don't really know what happened to be honest. I think we just hit a point where we realised that we were very different people and wanted different sort of lifestyles."

Sophie sees the fashion shoot as an important step in moving on “I think it's going to be quite an empowering experience. I think I need that now...

“I think this is going to be the moment, the experience that's going make me feel ‘you know what, life does go on, you know I’m not trapped in this feeling, I’m not trapped in this moment.’

"I want to make something beautiful out of something very sad."

Sam is in agreement that this is the right way forward, saying: “It’s just a great idea, I think more people should do that. Because it's closure, and it's going make you feel amazing … and she's going to look amazing”.
