About the Show

Hosted by Marvin and Rochelle Humes, The Hit List is an exciting and highly addictive music quiz for the whole family that will have you all shouting the answers at the TV. It’s deceptively simple because all you have to do to win a potential £10,000 prize is name the artist and title of hit songs. You’ve ‘heard’ all the answers before but can you remember them with enough speed and accuracy when under pressure?

THE SERIES

Series 4 consists of 12 episodes including 6 Celebrity Specials.

THE FORMAT

In each show, three pairs of contestants put their music knowledge to the ultimate test as they attempt to name as many songs and artists as possible. The songs played are all hits from a wide range of music genres from the 1950s to today, meaning the whole family can play along.

ROUND 1

Round 1 is called '5 of 5 from 5'. In this round, five seconds of five songs are played - one song from each of the last five decades starting from today’s charts and going all the way back to the 70s. Each pair has the chance to put 5 points on the scoreboard, all they have to do is correctly name the track and the artist.

ROUND 2

Round 2 is all about speed and quick-thinking. The teams are played a selection of clips from hit tracks, the split second they recognise a song they must press their button to get in first with an answer. Get it right and not only do they score a point but also a chance to identify a bonus track…but get it wrong and they will be put on mute while the other teams have a chance to win the point. To help the teams out, all the songs have a connection: whether it’s two songs written by the same songwriter or two songs which were a hit in the same year. It’s a race to be the first two teams with a full board of ten correct answers to go through to Round 3.

ROUND 3

Round 3 is all about the intros of songs. Each pair has a clock with 45 seconds on it. They take it in turns to correctly name tracks and artists from a ‘Hit List’. When their song starts playing, their clock starts to countdown. They can shout out the answer as many times as they like but the clock will only stop once a correct answer is given. Play then passes to their opponents who must try and name a track and artist whilst their clock ticks down. Play goes back and forth between the teams until one pair’s clock hits zero.

The teams have several Hit Lists to pick to play in this round. On each list are four tracks and they’re given picture clues to what each track might be to help them decide which to play. The clues might be anything from a picture of an artist mentioned in the lyrics of the track, or a clip from the 麻豆社 archive of the artist performing with their faces disguised.

Once all four tracks on the Hit List have been played, a new Hit List is selected. The teams take it in turns to pick the Hit Lists to play, meaning sometimes they’re picking a Hit List for their opponent to play first. Do they pick something they’re confident about themselves, knowing it may come back to them to play, or do they pick something they think their competition might struggle with, hoping to trip them up?

In this round the contestants also have THREE SKIPS to use if they get stuck. They use the SKIP by pressing their button once it lights up after three seconds of the track has played. Teamwork is vital in this round, you don’t want to SKIP just as your partner gives the right answer!

The pair that runs out of time first, leaves the show. The other team proceed to the Final Chart Rundown.

THE FINAL CHART RUNDOWN

The team that make it through to the Final Chart Rundown are playing for £10,000. In order to win the money they must climb to the Number One spot by correctly naming ten songs and artists from a themed Hit List. They have two choices of Hit Lists to pick from.

They start the game with £10,000 but the money will start to rundown once five seconds of music has played and will only stop when a correct answer is given.

Once they’ve correctly identified ten songs and artists they take home whatever is still left in the prize pot. But if they fail to give ten correct answers quickly enough and all of the money drains away, they will leave the show with nothing. Because the longer they take, the less they make!

The team has unlimited SKIPS in this round, but the skips are only active once 3 seconds of the track has played and the button lights up. If they skip a track after three seconds, they’ll have two seconds of the next track in which to identify it before the money starts to rundown.
