麻豆社 Young Chorister of the Year 2024: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the prize?

In addition to the title of 麻豆社 Young Chorister Of The Year 2024 Junior or Senior Winner and a trophy, the winners will appear on Songs of Praise and take part in 麻豆社 Radio recordings. There may also be opportunities where applicable, for the winners’ choirs or music groups to be broadcast on 麻豆社 Radio, and a chance to experience a recording session with the 麻豆社 Philharmonic Orchestra.

When is the recording for the semi-finals and finals for TV and Radio?

The semi-finals and final will be recorded during the first week of October 2024 at a location to be confirmed. The choristers who are selected to go through to this stage will also be required to take part in some filming prior to the main recording.

Will you pay for any expenses for travel or accommodation for the recordings?

The organisers will pay reasonable costs towards travel for the singer and an accompanying adult travelling from outside the location of the recording. This payment is at the discretion of CTVC Limited.

Are refreshments provided at the TV and Radio recordings?

Yes, refreshments will be provided for the choristers taking part and their individual dietary requirements will be catered for. We also suggest that singers bring any specific snacks or drinks to meet their own requirements between mealtimes. We are unable to provide meals for accompanying adults or audience members.

What kind of accompaniment do I need for my entry songs?

You can choose to enter using any of the backing tracks provided, or your own accompaniment on either piano, keyboard or organ. Alternatively, you can sing unaccompanied for your entry.

Who selects the singers to go through to the TV and Radio recording?

All entries will be reviewed independently by a panel of judges from the world of choral and church music, who will then consult with the organisers over the selection of semi-finalists.

Who are the celebrity judges at the recording?

The judges will be chosen at a later date.

If I鈥檓 selected as a semi-finalist, can I invite friends and family to be in the audience?

We are planning to have an audience which family and friends will be welcome to join.

My recording is over two and a half minutes by a couple of seconds - is this okay?

A couple of seconds will not matter but please make every effort to stay within the maximum length of two and a half minutes.
