麻豆社 Scottish Symphony Orchestra Privacy Notice for Newsletter Subscribers

About 麻豆社 Scottish Symphony Orchestra (麻豆社 SSO)

The orchestra is part of the British Broadcasting Corporation (the 麻豆社), the largest broadcasting organisation in the world. Formed in 1935, and based at Glasgow’s City Halls since 2006, the 麻豆社 SSO is Scotland’s national broadcasting orchestra and performs throughout Scotland, the UK and abroad. It maintains a busy schedule of broadcasts for 麻豆社 Radio 3, 麻豆社 Scotland, and online. It is Scotland’s leading champion of new music and has established strong links with local communities through its thriving learning and outreach programme.

Why do we collect and use your personal data?

We will only collect your personal data when we need it to help us do our job and allow you to benefit from 麻豆社 SSO services, such as to provide you with the best experiences and most relevant information. When we've collected it, here's how we use it:

• We’ll send you promotional and marketing information by post or by electronic means if you have opted in or subscribed to 麻豆社 SSO Newsletter service. These types of communications include informing you of other products, services or events related to the orchestra, such as concerts, events and broadcasts, news and updates about the orchestra, our Season brochure and “What’s On guides”, and invitations to our surveys for market research purposes.

• We record your ticket purchases, subscriptions history in order to keep you updated with the events you have booked.

• We track the emails we send, such as records when an email from us is opened and/or how many links are clicked within the message in order to monitor the effectiveness of our communications. The data from this tracking is generally used in an aggregated and anonymised form.

• We use your information to analyse our audience and ticket sales to improve our services, if we do so, we will make sure that you won’t be individually identified by this information.

What personal data is collected?

You must be 16 or over to sign up receiving marketing material (e.g. newsletter) from the 麻豆社 SSO. Your personal data is collected:
• when you buy a 麻豆社 SSO concert ticket and opt in/sign up to our newsletter service,
• when you sign up for one of our events,
• when you update your email preferences,
• when you agree to receive our newsletter after completing a survey with us,
• when you sign up to receive newsletter from us via our webform.

The 麻豆社 will collect and process the personal data about you. The categories of personal data that we process include the following:
• your name and title
• your postal and email addresses
• contact preferences
• your marketing preferences
• details of correspondence sent to you, or received from you
• user activity, such as your ticket purchase and event registration / attendance

If you buy a ticket through Glasgow Life for a 麻豆社 SSO performance and sign up to our newsletter service, the following personal data will be collected and processed by the 麻豆社 via the Glasgow Life booking system:
• your name and title
• your postal and email addresses
• contact preferences
• ticket purchases

Who is the Data Controller?

The 麻豆社 is the “data controller” of your personal data. This means that the 麻豆社 decides what your personal data is used for, and the ways in which it is processed. For the avoidance of doubt, your personal data will be collected and processed solely for the purposes set out in this privacy notice. As the data controller, the 麻豆社 has the responsibility to comply, and to demonstrate compliance with, data protection law.

If you buy a ticket from Glasgow Life, the 麻豆社 and Glasgow Life are joint data controllers for the data collected by the 麻豆社 via Glasgow Life booking system. Please refer to as this privacy notice does not apply to Glasgow Life’s processing of your personal data.

Lawful basis for processing your personal data

We've got a good reason for using your personal data (the law calls it the ‘lawful basis for processing'), because that needs to happen for you to get the benefits from using 麻豆社 Scottish Symphony Orchestra services, and we've made sure your rights are protected.

We rely on our “legitimate interest” to use your personal data to improve our service. When we send you promotional and marketing email/post, the lawful basis for this processing is鈥痗alled 'consent'. We can use your personal data because you have given us permission to do so via the “opt in” and/or have subscribed to our service.

Do we share your personal data with others?

The 麻豆社 works with our third-party providers who help us to provide some of our services. These partners only use your personal data on behalf of the 麻豆社 and not independently of the 麻豆社. For example, we use companies to deliver emails and post marketing materials to you and to manage a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) database.

Retaining your personal data

We will normally hold your information for as long as you are actively attending concerts or engaging with our newsletters. If you remain inactive, such as not opening our emails or not attending any concert or event for two years, your data will be deleted.
If you choose to opt out/unsubscribe, your details will be added to a suppression list and then deleted after three years.

You can unsubscribe from emails at any time by using the link at the foot of our emails and opt out of any / all of our promotional and marketing communications at any point or simply by contacting bbcsso@bbc.co.uk

We will revise the privacy notice if there are significant changes to how we use your personal data. The date of the most recent update will appear on this page. This privacy notice was last changed in March 2021.
