Solder becomes new editor of Radio 5 Live Breakfast

Scott Solder has been appointed as the new editor of Â鶹Éç Radio 5 Live Breakfast and will have a crucial role taking the programme forward as it moves to a new Salford home next year.

Solder will work with the show's two presenters Nicky Campbell and Shelagh Fogarty, both of whom have committed to move north with the programme.

He will also be responsible for 5 Live Weekend Breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays presented by Phil Williams and Rachel Burden. He will take up his post later this summer.

He succeeds Richard Jackson who had edited the programme for the last seven years and who has moved to the Â鶹Éç World Service.

Solder joins the Â鶹Éç after a period running his own company working in journalism and communications providing media training and journalism services with clients including No. 10 Downing Street and the Â鶹Éç.

He brings a wealth of experience of the radio industry, garnered as Programme Director at London's LBC radio. Under his stewardship the Nick Ferrari breakfast show won Sony gold in 2006.

Previously Solder worked widely at Radio 5 Live and elsewhere in the Â鶹Éç newsroom including a stint as an assistant editor in charge of all 5 Live weekend programming.

Radio 5 Live Controller Adrian Van Klaveren said of the appointment: "I'm really excited about Scott joining Radio 5 Live. The editor of 5 Live Breakfast is a crucial appointment – the more so in the light of the programme's recent successes. It's a big role, but I know that Scott has the talent and ability to take it forward and make his own mark on the programme."
