Radio Derby signs Rams striking legend

Â鶹Éç Radio Derby has signed up legendary Derby County striker Roger Davies as the new summariser for its coverage of Rams matches during the forthcoming 2009/10 football season.

Roger will sit alongside commentator Colin Bloomfield and veteran presenter Colin Gibson for all of the Rams games this season, beginning with the friendly against Stoke on 1 August.

During his distinguished playing career Roger started 144 games for Derby County after joining the club in 1971 and went on to be a valued member of the league-winning team, collecting a Championship medal under Dave Mackay in 1975.

Roger replaces former Derby County players Gary Rowett and Darren Wassall who have both gone on to management jobs, with Burton Albion and Derby County respectively.

Roger says: "When I knew Gary and Darren were leaving I said I was interested in summarising straightaway.

"When you think Derby County, you think Â鶹Éç Radio Derby."

He continues: "I'm really looking forward to the new season.

"The Championship is so unpredictable and Nigel Clough is bringing in hungry players. Just as it was with his father, players with passion will die for Nigel when they cross that white line."

Simon Cornes, Managing Editor, Radio Derby, said: "Roger's pedigree as a Derby County medal winner will bring real value to our coverage.

"Roger let slip at an event recently that he was transferring to Â鶹Éç Radio Derby and the audience burst into spontaneous applause."

Â鶹Éç Radio Derby broadcasts on 104.5, 95.3 & 96 FM, 1116 AM and online.
