MasterChef: The Professionals winner revealed

Twenty-five-year-old chef Derek Johnstone from Renfrewshire in Scotland has been revealed as the winner of MasterChef: The Professionals 2008 on Â鶹Éç Two.

Ìý

In the final show, the three remaining chefs from the 27 who have battled it out over the last four weeks faced their most daunting task yet – cooking for 30 of the best chefs in Europe and three former Michelin inspectors.

Ìý

In the very final challenge, they had to cook their best three-course meal in the MasterChef kitchen before Derek was crowned the winner by judges and presenters Gregg Wallace and Michel Roux Jnr.

Ìý

Michel Roux Jnr, who holds two Michelin stars, said: "Each of the finalists had a very clear individual style but the one that shone through and will in my view definitely become a star was Derek."

Ìý

Gregg Wallace said: "Derek is a quite outstanding young talent with a quite obvious bright future ahead of him."

Ìý

Derek himself added: "It was an incredible experience and one that I never thought I would get to take part in. I'm so pleased to have won the competition and as far as my career is concerned it has encouraged me to fulfil all my dreams."

MasterChef: The Professionals, from Â鶹Éç Daytime, is a twist on the hugely successful Masterchef brand, designed to be the country's toughest cooking competition in which professional chefs, rather than amateur cooks, compete.

Ìý

The series tested the chefs' skill, commitment and their ability to cook the very best food at the highest end of the culinary spectrum.

Ìý

Liam Keelan, Controller, Â鶹Éç Daytime, said: "MasterChef: The Professionals has proved to be a hit with viewers and demonstrates the high quality, factual programming available on Â鶹Éç Daytime."

Ìý

The regular version of MasterChef will be returning to Â鶹ÉçÌýOne in early 2009. There will be a Â鶹Éç Children in Need special, judged by John Torode and Gregg Wallace, on 14 November 2008.
