Iolo's secret seven announced - Â鶹Éç Wales launches major new TV series

Seven people with an aversion to nature have been recruited from across Wales for Iolo Williams's latest TV venture. The seven are currently filming for Not In My Nature - a new six-part series to be broadcast on Â鶹Éç One Wales from June 23 in which Iolo attempts to convert them to the wonders of Welsh wildlife.

Ìý

With a range of day jobs including train conductor, beautician, cook and restaurateur, the seven each have their own reasons for avoiding nature.

Ìý

In common with many people, most of the Not In My Nature recruits have an irrational fear of some creatures, which range from spiders and bugs to rats and snakes.

Ìý

The seven were selected because they are typical of many Welsh people who have a limited knowledge of Welsh wildlife, but would like to explore their home country more extensively.

Ìý

During the series - which will be broadcast twice-weekly on television and includes a supporting Â鶹Éç Radio Wales series and a dedicated website bbc.co.uk/notinmynature - they will be coming face-to-face with nature in the wild and will have to face some of their deepest fears.

Ìý

The seven are: Carly Jones, 17, a trainee from Merthyr Tydfil; Chris Edwards, 45, a train conductor from Newport; Julie Howaston Broster, 35, a beautician from Denbigh; Kate Foley, 42, a cook from Denbigh; Abul Shikdar, 35, a front-of-house restaurant manager from Cardiff; Laverne Brown, 35, an electrician from Cardiff; Lloyd Jones, 20, a student from Pontardawe.

Ìý

Iolo Williams says: "Filming for the series has been a totally new experience for me. Not only are the participants on a huge learning curve - so am I.

Ìý

"I'm finding out so much more about nature because I'm getting to see things through the eyes of people who haven't really ever paid much attention to the nature around them.

Ìý

"We've really taken them out of their comfort zone but they seem to be coping well. There have been a few interesting moments during filming but I don't want to spoil the surprise so people will have to tune in to see what I mean."

Ìý

Not In My Nature will be broadcast from Monday, June 23, Â鶹Éç One Wales, 8.30pm.
