Mark Bell appointed as Commissioning Editor, Specialist Factual, Independents

George Entwistle, Controller, Knowledge Commissioning, announced today the appointment of Mark Bell as the new Commissioning Editor, Specialist Factual, Independents – part of his Â鶹Éç Knowledge Commissioning team.

Mark Bell will report to Richard Klein, the Head of Independent Knowledge Commissioning, and will be commissioning Specialist Factual programmes and multiplatform content.

Richard Klein said: "I'm delighted to have Mark joining my team as the new Commissioning Editor for Specialist Factual. Mark is a passionate advocate for the Â鶹Éç's Factual output and brings a wealth of experience to the role. I'm sure he will be a great force in harnessing the creative talent of the Independent sector."

Mark Bell said: "I am thrilled to be taking on this role and working in such an exciting part of the Â鶹Éç. I am really looking forward to finding the best ways of making great content that will be found by as many people as possible. This means looking for fresh approaches to the communication of knowledge, making the intelligent accessible and the accessible intelligent."

Prior to taking on this role, from 2004 Mark worked as a Channel Executive at Â鶹Éç Two and Â鶹Éç Four, where he worked directly to the Channel Controllers, overseeing all elements of editorial management of the channels.

During this time he was executive lead on a number of high profile projects including Â鶹Éç Two's Summer Of British Film season and numerous nights and seasons on Â鶹Éç Four including The Edwardians, The Lost Decade, Pop On Trial and Science Fiction Britannia.

Mark Bell began his career in television as a researcher and then producer in Â鶹Éç Music & Arts. In 2001 he moved to Newsnight as Series Producer before joining the Specialist Factual department as a Series Producer in 2002.

Mark will take up his post with immediate effect.
