Radio 1's Annie Mac covers for Coxy

Â鶹Éç Radio 1 announced today (21 January) that Annie Mac will host Saturdays and Sundays between 1.00 and 4.00pm, covering Sara Cox's slot during her maternity leave.

Annie's first shows at the weekends will be 23 and 24 February and Sara will return to the station in September 2008.

In further news, Nick Grimshaw joins Radio 1 to front Switch (Sundays, 7.00-10.00pm) whilst Annie looks after weekends. Nick has been a weekly contributor to Switch since the show started in October 2007 and co-hosts the Â鶹Éç Two music show Sound with Annie.

Annie will continue to host Annie Mac's Mash Up (Fridays, 9.00-11.00pm).

Annie Mac said: "I am delighted to look after Sara's show for her when she's having baby number two. I think Sara is an exceptional presenter, and I just hope I do her show justice for her when she's away.

"I know that Switch is in safe hands with my mate Grimmy looking after it. He's so funny on the radio and is properly passionate about new music. He'll do a super job."

Nick Grimshaw said: "I'm so excited about taking over the show solo, although I will lose my radio wife Mac. I guess it's more of a separation than a divorce though. Just I'm keeping the kids and she's got the house.

"I've wanted to do a Radio 1 show since I was about 12 after realising I was musically talentless, it's kind of the next best thing. Switch is one of the most exciting shows on the station so it's an honour to be hosting it."

Sara Cox said: "I'm really happy that Annie is going to keep my seat warm while I'm away, she's a good pal and I'm sure she'll be brilliant on the show."
