Stellar line-up for Â鶹Éç One suburban nightmare The Dinner Party

Alun Armstrong, Elizabeth Berrington, George Cole, Lee Evans, Rupert Graves, Alison Steadman and Jessie Wallace star in The Dinner Party, a new comedy drama for Â鶹Éç One, from Â鶹Éç Drama Production.

Ìý

Set in the green belt paradise of suburban England, this comedy drama follows three couples who meet to celebrate Roger's birthday.

Ìý

Roger (Rupert Graves, V For Vendetta) and his wife, The Shrew (Elizabeth Berrington, The Rotters Club) live on the village's premier road, "The Avenue", which is a notch above "The Drive", where Jim (Alun Armstrong, New Tricks) and Juliet (Alison Steadman, Gavin And Stacey) live.

Ìý

The Drive in turn is a notch above "The Walk" where Leo (Lee Evans, The Producers) and Jackie (Jessie Wallace, A Class Apart) have just moved to from Crouch End. They soon discover the order and hierarchy of village life.

Ìý

"The play takes place over one evening and perfectly captures a sense of an English dinner party," says writer and director, Tony Grounds (A Class Apart, Births Marriages And Deaths).

Ìý

"As the evening progresses and the wine flows, fractures begin to appear in the perfect lives of the guests with hilarious consequences.

Ìý

"I've lived in the suburbs and they are at the same time, both lovely and ghastly, friendly and nasty. Behind the prim and proper lurk the dark figures of greed and envy. With this in mind I wrote The Dinner Party – three couples, two courses, one nightmare."

Ìý

John Yorke, Executive Producer, says: "The combination of Alison Steadman, Alun Armstrong, Lee Evans, Jessie Wallace, Rupert Graves and Elizabeth Berrington is pure dynamite and a dream team for drama lovers, and I can promise one or two monstrous characters and a nightmare evening from hell."

Ìý

The Dinner Party was commissioned by Jane Tranter, Controller, Â鶹Éç Fiction, written and directed by Tony Grounds and produced by Sally Stokes.

Ìý

Â鶹Éç Drama Production is a world leader in classic, period adaptation and contemporary drama.

Ìý

Forthcoming highlights include Cranford, starring Dame Judi Dench, and a new adaptation of Sense And Sensibility by Andrew Davies, starring David Morrissey.
