Â鶹Éç hosts climate countdown week in North East England

Frequent flooding, increased wind speeds and extreme summer temperatures are just some of the predictions for future life in the North East of England according to an Environment Agency report.

Ìý

The Â鶹Éç in the North East explores what life might be like in 2050 and whether the predictions of climate chaos are right.

Ìý

The informed debate runs from Monday 26 to Friday 30 March across Â鶹Éç Radio Newcastle, Â鶹Éç Tyne, Â鶹Éç Wear, Look North and Inside Out.

Ìý

Joining the debate are those who are sceptical of man–made climate change including naturalist David Bellamy, and those who believe that we must act now to avoid climate chaos, like Michael Fish.

Ìý

Environment Secretary and MP for South Shields David Miliband joins Â鶹Éç Climate Countdown to set out what action he believes must be taken.

Ìý

Every day from Monday to Friday, the Â鶹Éç Blue Bus will be out in different locations with the Climate Dome, an inflatable dome which is used to raise awareness about climate change.

Ìý

"Climate doctors" will be on hand to answer questions and offer practical advice for people to make a difference.

Ìý

Topics for discussion during the week include: what life will be like in 2050; recycling and energy efficiency in the home; tourism and transport; health and food and the politics of climate change.

Ìý

Throughout the week on Look North, weather forecaster Trai Anfield will be reporting on her experience of living in an eco-house for a week.

Ìý
