Coping with disasters – Â鶹Éç debates in Indonesia
The Â鶹Éç's Indonesian service, Â鶹Éç Siaran Indonesia, has launched a series of live events investigating coping with disasters in Indonesia.

Each of the events in three Indonesian cities – Bali, Semarang and Jakarta – is supported with promotional activities in universities, internet cafes and coffee shops.

Â鶹Éç presenter Anton Alifandi will co-host the coping with disasters debates with partner stations, Global FM in Bali, Smart FM in Semarang and Radio Elshinta in Jakarta.

Talking to local and national government officials, NGO representatives, journalists and experts, the events will look at what can be done to help reduce the impact of disasters – when and if they strike.

The audience participation events will be broadcast live by the partner stations, re-broadcast on the Â鶹Éç airwaves across Indonesia and will be available to international Indonesian-speaking audience via bbcindonesia.com.

Indonesians are also encouraged to feedback by commenting on "notepad" posters, which they can write on, and through leaflets and emails.

They are asked to share their experiences of coping with disasters and to pose questions which then will be passed on to the government.

Head of Â鶹Éç Siaran Indonesia, Menuk Suwondo, said: "We have an ongoing relationship with our audiences and know just how important coping with disasters has been for people in Indonesia.

"Our newsgathering team based in Jakarta and reporters throughout the archipelago ensure news from the country reaches both local and international audiences. But by bringing the programme-making directly to Indonesia, we will gain unique insights and personal testimony.
