Everybody needs somebody in Shieldinch

The cast of Scottish soap River City have filmed a Shieldinch-style version of the Blues Brothers' Everybody Needs Somebody To Love for Â鶹Éç Children in Need.

Ìý

Following the success of last year's version of Car Wash, this recording will be shown as part of the Â鶹Éç Children in Need show on Â鶹Éç One Scotland on the evening of Friday 17 November, presented by Jackie Bird and Des Clarke.

Ìý

These shots were taken inside Gina's café (The Oyster Café) where the crew had to relocate due to the level of wind and rain on the River City set in Dumbarton when filming took place on Thursday 26 October.

Ìý

Cast member Stephen Purdon, who plays Bob, says: "There's a sequence at the beginning of the number where six of the male cast had to walk along Montego Street towards Gordon McCorkell (Deek), who's standing at the bus shelter.

Ìý

"We were all acting cool, Reservoir Dogs-style with our suits, shades and hats - but it was really difficult, as we had to keep our hands on our hats to stop them from blowing away!

Ìý

"In the end we filmed most of it in the Oyster Café, which worked really well. Although the space was more confined, we managed to do our dance moves without injury!

Ìý

"There was a really good vibe from everyone on the day, especially as it was the day before River City broke up for the winter break in filming, and we all had a ball.

Ìý

"Children In Need is such a great cause and we were really pleased to be asked to do something again this year."

Irish actors Peter Vollebregt and David Murray, who play priests Father Dominic and Father Michael in the soap, take a leap out of character by dressing as nuns - and promise to offer much hilarity when they crop up throughout the video!

Ìý

The Blues Brothers are emulated by cast members Stephen Purdon (Bob), Gordon McCorkell (Deek), John Paul McGilvray (Gerry), Gilly Gilchrist (Archie), Derek Munn (Eddie), Paul Samson (Raymond) and Tony Kearney (Scott).

Ìý

The cast's ladies offer the glamour throughout the performance, and the 'Blues Band' takes the form of youngsters Natasha Watson (Freya), Sean Brown (Paul) and sparring screen sisters Julie Duncanson, Joyce Falconer and Claire Knight (Shona, Roisin and Iona).

Ìý

River City is shown on Tuesdays on Â鶹Éç One Scotland at 8pm.

Ìý

Â鶹Éç Children In Need will be shown on Friday 17 November 2006 from 7pm on Â鶹Éç One Scotland.
