Peter Horrocks announces editorial appointments for Â鶹Éç Television News

The Â鶹Éç's Head of Television News, Peter Horrocks, today announced two new appointments to his senior editorial team.

Ìý

Kevin Bakhurst, currently the Editor of the Â鶹Éç's Ten O'clock News, has been promoted to the role of Controller of Â鶹Éç News 24.

Ìý

And Amanda Farnsworth, current editor of the Â鶹Éç's Six O'clock News, has been appointed Editor, Daytime - a new role, which covers the editorship of both the One and Six O'clock news bulletins.

Kevin Bakhurst, who was an editor of News 24 from 2001 to 2003, was appointed Editor of the Â鶹Éç Ten O'clock News in March 2004.

Ìý

Under his editorship the Ten O'clock News received a Bafta for its coverage of the Madrid bombing, and also an RTS Award for News Programme of the Year.

Kevin joined the Â鶹Éç in 1989 as assistant producer in the Business and Economics unit.

Ìý

In 1990 he became a producer for the Â鶹Éç Nine O'clock News, and then assistant editor of the Nine and Ten O'clock bulletins from 1996 to 2001.

Ìý

Amanda Farnsworth joined the Â鶹Éç as a news trainee in 1986 before working as an assistant producer on Panorama and producer on Newsnight.

Ìý

In 1994 she became Â鶹Éç bureau editor in Washington DC and returned to the UK to join Â鶹Éç News 24 as launch editor in 1997.

Ìý

She went on to become launch editor of Â鶹Éç FOUR News and was appointed editor of the Six O'Clock News in 2004.

Commenting on the appointments, Peter Horrocks, said: "Kevin has been a highly successful editor of the Ten. He will bring his incisive editorial and organisational skills to help News 24 grow even further.

"Amanda will bring creative imagination and a strong understanding of the strategic future direction of News to this crucial role."

Ìý

Helen Boaden, Director of Â鶹Éç News, said: "The Head of News 24 is a key creative and strategic role for Â鶹Éç News and I'm delighted that Kevin is the channel's first controller."

Ìý

Both Kevin and Amanda will take up their new roles in the New Year.

Ìý

The post of Editor, Ten O'clock News, will be advertised internally and externally.

Ìý

Where posts have closed - in the cases of Mark Popescu (Editorial Director, News 24) and Chris Rybczynski (Editor, One O'clock News) - Â鶹Éç News will now explore possibilities of redeployment within the division.
