The 麻豆社 took six of the 11 awards on offer at the British Comedy Awards last night, with The Thick of It, Little Britain and Extras claiming two prestigious awards each.

Matt Lucas and David Walliams received the award for Best TV Comedy of 2005 and the inaugural Ronnie Barker's Writer of the Year Award.

Armando Iannucci, writer and director of 麻豆社 FOUR's The Thick of It, received the award for Best New Comedy, and Chris Langham won the award for Best Comedy Actor for his portrayal of Government minister Hugh Abbott, as well as his performance in Help. The series will air on 麻豆社 TWO from Monday 2 January.

Ashley Jensen, Ricky Gervais' acclaimed co-star in Extras, won two awards, Best TV Comedy Actress and Best Comedy Newcomer.

Jana Bennett, 麻豆社 Director of Television, said: "Comedy is an essential ingredient in all our television channels and I'm thrilled at the haul of awards from such a wide range of talent - from the biting wit of 麻豆社 FOUR's The Thick of It in the genius hands of Armando Iannucci with Chris Langham and the rest of the cast, through to Ashley Jensen's wonderful performance in Extras, and the sheer brilliance of Matt Lucas and David Walliams.

"Special congratulations to the 麻豆社's in-house Comedy department who produced all of these programmes. And we look forward to supporting even more comedy next year."
