Jeremy Vine joins Â鶹Éç Election team

The Â鶹Éç's Election team will welcome a new face to the line-up, with the announcement that Jeremy Vine has been appointed as the new election graphics presenter.

Ìý

Former Newsnight and Politics Show presenter Jeremy fronts the award-winning Jeremy Vine Show on weekdays on Â鶹Éç Radio 2 and hosted the station's General Election coverage earlier this year.

Ìý

He replaces Peter Snow, who stepped down from the role in October.

Ìý

Commenting on the appointment, Jeremy said: "Peter Snow is one of the most talented and generous of all the big stars - and his work on the swingometer has shown us all the way to do it, combining attention to detail with expertise and maximum enthusiasm.

Ìý

"I'm thrilled to take up the mantle. This is at the cutting edge of everything news does. Having spent years in the lobby at Westminster, I feel I'm getting back to the heart of politics just as it starts to get lively again."

Ìý

The Â鶹Éç's Director of News, Helen Boaden, added: "This is a marvellous appointment. Jeremy will carry on where Peter left off, bringing authority, insight and real passion to our election coverage."

Ìý

Peter Snow said: "I am delighted. Jeremy will bring a wonderful style and vitality to one of the most exciting roles in British television."

Ìý

Jeremy's first campaign in his new role will be the local government elections in May 2006.

Ìý

Peter Snow is working on a series about 20th century battles for Â鶹Éç TWO with his son, Dan, together with another major Â鶹Éç programme on the ownership of British land.
