Broadcaster Nicky Campbell, Royle Family and Two Pints of Lager actor Ralf Little and lead writer and Story Consultant on EastEnders Tony Jordan will lead the search for new writers with the best sporting stories, as the second series of Sports Shorts gets underway on Â鶹Éç Radio Five Live on 31 May.

Ìý

Entrants are asked to submit a script for a short drama of up to ten minutes, based on their best sporting moment - whether real or imaginary, comical or poignant.

Ìý

The successful five winning scripts will be commissioned into ten-minute radio dramas and broadcast on Sport on Five on Radio Five Live and Â鶹Éç local radio in the autumn.

Ìý

The author of the winning entry will also receive a VIP trip to the Â鶹Éç Sports Personality of the Year Award in December.

Ìý

Helping to judge the competition are Campbell, himself a former student actor; Little, who combines a passion as a talented footballer with his acting commitments; and Jordan, one of the most eminent names in British drama.

Ìý

The deadline for submitted entries is 31 July.

Ìý

The full panel of judges will include Bob Shennan, Controller, and Moz Dee, Commissioning Editor of Five Live; plus Kate Rowland, the Â鶹Éç's Creative Director of New Writing.Ìý

Ìý

Bob Shennan, Controller of Radio Five Live, said: "We were amazed at the quality and number of plays submitted to us last year.

Ìý

"Listeners in their thousands sent in plays of real quality and emotion that made for great radio, so I can't wait to see what people come up with this year."

Ìý

To help budding writers craft their stories, Five Live and writersroom will hold a series of workshops around the UK offering advice and support.

Ìý

These will take place in Belfast, Manchester, Leeds, Cardiff, Leicester, Liverpool, London, Glasgow, Newcastle, Luton, Southampton and Brighton.
