RADIO YORK

Award-winning journalist is named as new editor of 麻豆社 Radio York

Matt YoudaleAn award-winning journalist has been named as the new managing editor of 麻豆社 Radio York.

Matt Youdale, 43, has been acting editor since November 2002 and takes over the post from Barrie Stephenson who is now running the 麻豆社's digital storytelling project.

Mr Youdale said: "I am delighted to be working in such a beautiful part of the world, and with such a talented group of people.

"This is an exciting time to be at 麻豆社 Radio York, as the station is 21 years old this year and we are planning some special celebrations."

Married with two children, Mr Youdale was educated in Kent and at the University of Durham.

He began his journalistic career at the Morning Telegraph in Sheffield covering the miners' strike before moving onto the Yorkshire Post where, as their Sheffield district reporter, his assignments included reporting the Hillsborough disaster and inquiry.

He joined the 麻豆社 at Radio Derby in 1989, before becoming regional health correspondent for the East Midlands - a post he held for seven years.

He was then acting managing editor of both 麻豆社 Radio Nottingham and 麻豆社 Radio Leicester before arriving in York.

Colin Philpott, head of the 麻豆社 in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, said: "Matt is a very experienced journalist and programme maker and I am delighted that he will be continuing to look after the 麻豆社's operations in North Yorkshire."

Matt enjoys watercolour painting, gardening, birdwatching, sport and keeping fit.
