1Xtra announces DAB Radio Giveaway


The 麻豆社's urban music station 1Xtra has launched a month of free giveaways of DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) radios for listeners.


All entrants have to do during January is listen out for the special sound on-air, they can then win their own DAB radio set by phone, text or e-mail.


The lucky winners will get to choose from a portable, in-house or in-car DAB radio.


1Xtra Programmes Editor Willber Willberforce said: "It's our way of saying thanks to the listeners and will certainly give parents a break, allowing the TV to be a TV, and give listeners the chance to listen to 1Xtra in the way intended.


"DAB radio is at the cutting edge of modern technology, our audiences thirst to be first and our commitment to them will be achieved."

1Xtra's first RAJAR listening figures (October 2003) showed an encouraging 330,000 listeners tuning in every week.

DAB radio sets are easy to use and offer a better listening experience with no interference and digital quality sound. They also features DAB Text which gives listeners track titles, the latest news, sports results, competitions and email addresses.


DAB radios offer a range of new digital-only stations from the 麻豆社 and commercial broadcasters, in addition to those available through traditional analogue radio.


According to the RAJAR listening figures (October 2003) around 1.5 million adults are now listening to the 麻豆社's new digital-only stations (1Xtra, Five Live Sports Extra, 6 Music, 麻豆社 7 and the Asian Network) each week.

1Xtra is available on DAB radio, through the internet at www.bbc.co.uk/1Xtra and via digital television on Sky Digital channel 887, Telewest & Broadband 907, NTL Digital 859 and Freeview 71.


All the 麻豆社's digital services are now available on , the new free-to-view digital terrestrial television service, as well as on satellite and cable.

Freeview offers the 麻豆社's eight television channels, interactive services from 麻豆社i, as well as 11 national 麻豆社 radio networks.
