WORLD SERVICE

New 麻豆社 radio and internet deal in Mexico

麻豆社 Latin American Service programmes will now be broadcast from four FM stations of the Tec of Monterrey University campuses based in Monterrey, Guadalajara, Mexico City and Mexico State.

Latin America's largest private university will also broadcast programmes via their internet site.

The launch will take place tomorrow (Wednesday 30 April 2003) on the campus of Tec of Monterrey in Mexico City.

A signing ceremony will be attended by James Painter, Head of the Spanish American Section of the 麻豆社 World Service; Dr Rafael Rangel Sostmann, Rector of the Tec of Monterrey University and Denise Holt, the British Ambassador in Mexico.

James Painter says: "This agreement is of great importance to the 麻豆社 World Service.

"The Tec has a huge reputation for academic excellence and innovative learning methods in and outside Mexico.

"It's a sure way of reaching a new generation of listeners."

Dr Rafael Rangel Sostmann added: "The signing of this agreement between the Tecnol贸gico de Monterrey and the 麻豆社 marks an important step for the Institute's journalism and communication students, both broadening their horizons at an international level and connecting them with one of the world's most prestigious institutions."

The signing of the deal coincides with a series of training courses that the 麻豆社 is giving to more than 100 students from the Tec of Monterrey and journalists from the 麻豆社's partner stations in Mexico.

The courses, which focus on 麻豆社 editorial principles and the coverage of human rights, are funded by the Human Rights Project Fund and organised and promoted by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

The winner of a competition organised by the Tec of Monterrey's journalism department will also be announced at the ceremony.

The prize is one month work experience in London with the 麻豆社 World Service.

In addition, the British Embassy is organising two scholarship places for Mexican journalists to also spend three months with the 麻豆社.
