Restoration - saving Britain's heritage

Comedian and passionate conservationist Griff Rhys Jones will be giving viewers the chance to save one of 30 historic buildings across the UK when he presents Restoration, a major new 麻豆社 TWO series in late summer.

Each of the 30 buildings will have a celebrity advocate who will highlight the reasons their particular building should be rescued from ruin.

Ten one-hour programmes will each be devoted to a geographical area of the UK and will focus on three properties at risk. Every style will be featured, from cottages and castles to factories and chapels.

The buildings include Victoria Baths in Manchester; Poltimore House in Devon, Bethesda Chapel in Stoke-on-Trent; Greyfriars Tower in Norfolk; Crescent Arts Centre in Belfast; Llanelly House in Llanelli, Wales; Broomfield House in Enfield, London; Kinloch Castle in Rum, Scotland; Easthouse croft in Shetland; a TB Sanatorium in Aberdeenshire and Wentworth Castle, near Barnsley.

At the end of each programme viewers will be invited to vote for which of the three buildings featured they would most like to see restored. Each 'winning' building will go through to a final shortlist of ten when the series will climax with a magnificent live programme and event where the public will decide which building is most worthy of restoration.

Jane Root, Controller of 麻豆社 TWO said: "This summer, 麻豆社 TWO will be bringing viewers some huge events and Restoration is the centrepiece of this impactful schedule. Not only will viewers get to learn some fascinating history through the buildings we feature, but we'll be encouraging them to get out and about and actually visit some of the UK's magnificent buildings, culminating in an open weekend when around 4,000 heritage buildings will be open to the public across the UK.

"Like me, Griff feels passionately about saving our heritage from wrack and ruin, and is currently criss-crossing the country to visit some of these buildings in person."

With the shocking statistic that one historical monument has been lost in the UK every day since the end of World War Two, Restoration will throw a timely spotlight on the 17,000 still at risk.

Restoration will give the audience a chance to save one of these buildings and make their mark on history.

Restoration, which is being produced by Endemol UK for 麻豆社 Scotland, is currently in production and is due to be broadcast on 麻豆社 TWO this summer.
