Joint Sino-British English language learning initiative in China

麻豆社 World Service has teamed up with the Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy in China, China Central Radio and Television University (CCRTVU) and CCRTVU-Online to launch in2english - a new free multimedia English language learning initiative aimed for young Chinese professionals, teachers of English and children.

The main focus of the initiative is the website


This combines British expertise and experience of English teaching and development of on-line learning materials, with CCRTVU's expert knowledge of the Chinese learning environment.

i is a valuable on-line learning tool providing a comprehensive multimedia language environment that is completely free.

The website has four areas which focus on English for everyday living, English for business and work, English for teachers at the primary school level, and English for children aged 6-12 years old.

English language learning is on the increase in China. Government officials estimate over 600,000 people are learning English in Beijing alone in preparation for the 2008 Olympics and the Ministry of Education has lowered the age children would have to begin to formally learn English from 12 to 8.
