Â鶹Éç Magazines licenses Lonely Planet and Knowledge magazines in Brazil

Lonely Planet Magazine and Â鶹Éç Knowledge Magazine will be published in Brazil from June 2009, under licence from Â鶹Éç Magazines to Ediouro Duetto Editorial Ltda.

This will be the first international licence for Lonely Planet magazine and the second for Â鶹Éç Knowledge magazine. The deal also marks the first partnership between Ediouro and Â鶹Éç Magazines.

Lonely Planet Magazine will go on sale on 26 June 2009 and Â鶹Éç Knowledge Magazine on 19 June 2009. Both titles will have print runs of 40,000 and a cover price of R$ 10,90 each.

James Hewes, Head of International Development, Â鶹Éç Magazines, said: "We are delighted to have agreed these two deals with Ediouro, particularly as it marks the first international licence for Lonely Planet Magazine. We have every reason to expect that both titles will follow the success of Â鶹Éç History magazine ('Historia') which demonstrated that there's a real appetite in Brazil for magazines that deliver specialist factual content in an entertaining and informative way."

Vânia Tavares, Executive Director of Ediouro said: "It is a great honour to Ediouro to be the first publisher of Lonely Planet Magazine abroad and one of the first to publish Â鶹Éç Knowledge. We are deeply impressed with the quality of the content of both magazines and we believe firmly that the Brazilian market will welcome these publications."

Both titles will be edited by Daniel Stycer, who has with 20 years experience in print and digital journalism. Stycer has worked for some of the major media groups in Brazil, such as Jornal do Brasil, IstoÉ Magazine and O Globo (website and newspaper).

Ediouro Holding operates in the Brazilian publishing market, producing books, magazines and also offering printing services. It has 800 employees and is the market share leader in crosswords and puzzle magazines, with nationwide distribution in 30 thousand newsstands. It has over 92 magazine titles, aimed at all age groups.

Â鶹Éç Knowledge Magazine launched in the US in August 2008. The 100-page full-colour glossy title offers informative, entertaining and inspirational features on science, history and nature, drawing on the existing portfolio of quality specialist factual titles produced by Â鶹Éç Magazines Bristol, including award-winning popular science title Focus, Â鶹Éç History Magazine and Â鶹Éç Wildlife Magazine.

Lonely Planet Magazine launched in the UK in November 2008. It combines the Â鶹Éç’s expertise in quality programming on travel and world cultures with Lonely Planet’s reputation as a leading global travel brand.

Â鶹Éç History Magazine was licensed to Grupo Domo in Brazil and launched in August 2008 as Â鶹Éç Historia and sells an average of 7700 per issue.

Â鶹Éç Magazines publishes over 40 Â鶹Éç consumer titles, including Top Gear, Good Food, Gardeners’ World and Radio Times and many children’s titles including In the Night Garden, CBeebies Weekly, and Doctor Who Adventures. There are now 44 licensed editions of Â鶹Éç Magazines’ titles across 55 territories internationally. Â鶹Éç Magazines is part of Â鶹Éç Worldwide Limited, the main commercial arm and a wholly owned subsidiary of the British Broadcasting Corporation (Â鶹Éç).
