ten years since its first broadcast on 麻豆社 TWO in 1994, 麻豆社 Worldwide
is proud to announce the first ever DVD release of The Day Today.
Packed
with special DVD extras as a two-disc set, The Day Today is available
to buy on 26 April 2004.
Created
and written by Chris Morris and Armando Iannucci, the programme featured
Chris Morris as the news anchor with Steve Coogan debuting as sports
reporter Alan Partridge, Patrick Marber as the hapless Peter O'Hanraha-Hanrahan,
Doon Mackichan (Smack The Pony) as Collatallie Sisters, David Schneider
as weatherman Sylvester Stewart and Rebecca Front as CBN's American
reporter Barbara Wintergreen.
In a hard-hitting
style soon to be adopted by news programmes everywhere, The Day Today
reported John Major's punch-up with HM The Queen, a terrorist campaign
that used exploding dogs, evidence of police eating their suspects,
news of gangsta rapper FUR Q 'ironically' murdering people on stage,
and live footage of an American man being electrocuted whilst dressed
as Elvis.
The DVD
features extensive extras including six mini-news segments, the untransmitted
pilot episode, extended scenes and an astonishingly po-faced Open University
'behind the scenes' programme.
Produced by Armando Iannucci and featuring the writing of Peter Baynham
(I'm Alan Partridge, Brass Eye), Graham Linehan & Arthur Matthews
(Father Ted), together with the cast, The Day Today firmly established
itself as one of the most talked about comedy shows on television.
A Talkback
production, The Day Today was developed from the hit Radio 4 series
On The Hour and featured three winners from the 1994 British Comedy
Awards (Steve Coogan for Top Male Comedy Performer and Best TV Comedy
Personality, Chris Morris as Top TV Comedy Newcomer and Armando Iannucci
for the Special Award for Comedy).
The show
achieved viewing figures of over 3 million when first transmitted and
has sold over 106,000 copies on video.
