MUSIC to Launch New Record Label - Late Junction
Release
Date for first four new releases: 27th May 2002
In
May 2002 麻豆社 Music launches an exciting new label, Late Junction,
inspired by the eclectic 麻豆社 Radio 3 programme of the same name,
presented by Verity Sharp and Fiona Talkington. Like the radio programme,
the Late Junction record label is a meeting place for a broad range
of artists who cross over musical borders, from jazz and world music
to contemporary classical and electronica. Using this diverse mix
as its springboard, the Late Junction label takes listeners on fresh
and exciting new adventures in music.
"At
last, a pioneering record label, out to chart an enormous range
of music from all over the world. Late Junction promises to be the
home of endeavour, experiment and expertise." Verity Sharp
"I
am always completely bowled over when I talk to musicians who listen
to the programme. Late Junction is the place where they get their
ideas for collaborations and the inspiration for trying out
new ideas. The launch of the Late Junction label shows just what
an important part Late Junction has played in the musical life of
the country since its launch 2 and a half years ago. What exciting
musical times we live in!" Fiona Talkington
The
first four releases on Late Junction are a great example of this
spirited approach. There's a major new album by U.S. composer John
Adams, recorded live at the Barbican during the critically acclaimed
concert series earlier this year. This unique recording, featuring
three well-known Adams pieces, performed by the 麻豆社 Symphony Orchestra
and soloists Leila Josefowicz (violin) and Christopher Maltman (baritone),
captures for the first time the magic of John Adams conducting his
Violin Concerto. Max Richter's brilliant debut album, memoryhouse,
takes an imagined journey through the last century, using a fascinating
mix of found sounds, beats and soundscapes. The David Rees-Williams
Trio also release their eagerly awaited debut album Hidden Colours
on the Late Junction label. The Trio's music, jazz arrangements
of early classical music pieces such as the sublime When I'm Laid
In Earth, is creating much interest, particularly with 麻豆社 Radio
3 listeners. On the fourth album, Diversions #1, Verity Sharp has
compiled her Late Junction favourites, reflecting the eclectic nature
of the radio programme. Included are artists such as Plastikman,
Goldfrapp and Mercury Rev alongside the sounds of frogs in the Amazon
Rainforest.
