Break
out the Veuve and Bourbon! The outrageous Edina and Patsy, Saffy,
Bubble and Mother are back. The original cast return, coughing and
spluttering into the 21st century with a brand new series of Absolutely
Fabulous.
Absolutely
Fabulous first began its tremendously successful run in 1992 on
麻豆社 TWO and moved across to 麻豆社 ONE in 1994 for two more series
and two specials. It has now been shown all over the world and has
won numerous awards including two international EMMY's and three
BAFTA awards.
This
new double DVD contains all six episodes on disc one and the second
disc features the excellent one-off special 'Mirrorball', interviews
with Jennifer Saunders, Joanna Lumley and producer Jon Plowman,
a commentary by Jennifer Saunders and Jon Plowman, out-takes, photo
gallery and subtitles for the hard of hearing.
In
the new series, Edina (Jennifer Saunders) has moved with the times
expanding from the world of PR to include the interactive and hip
world of television production. Patsy (Joanna Lumley) has somehow
managed to gain promotion to Managing Editor of her glossy magazine
despite her continuing over-indulgence in any substance or liquid
that comes to hand. Saffy (Julia Sawalha) continues her attempts
to move out of her mother's house by joining various New Labour
committees and embarking on a new career as a playwright. Mother
(June Whitfield) has taken up Salsa dancing and internet shopping.
Jane Horrocks excels as both scatty PA Bubble and a brand new character
Katy Grin, the saccharine sweet TV presenter with a rod of iron
up her back and a past that includes local news presenting, kids
television and the Lottery.
As
usual there are a colourful bundle of celebrity appearances including
socialite Lady Victoria Hervey, EastEnder Michael Grecco, Richard
and Judy, Boyzone's Stephen Gately, Twiggy, supermodel Erin O'Connor,
Sacha Distel, Marianne Faithfull and Anita Pallenberg.
