WWE superstar John Cena to retire from wrestling
WWE superstar and actor John Cena has announced his retirement from wrestling.
This means he will no longer take part in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) events.
Cena made the surprise announcement during a WWE event in Canada.
Speaking to fans he said: "Tonight I officially announce my retirement from the WWE."
He also said his final in-ring competition will be in 2025 as part of a farewell tour.
Fans greeted the announcement with chants of "thank you Cena".
He later added he intended staying in part of the WWE family in some way despite feeling physically not able to carry on wrestling.
Who is John Cena?
John Cena is considered to be one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time.
He is a 16-time world champion. He has won the WWE Championship a record 13 times and the World Heavyweight Championship three times since joining WWE in 2001.
He has also been WWE United States Champion five times.
He started acting in 2006 and has starred in many films including Ferdinand, Bumblebee and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
John Cena is also a Guinness World Record holder for most wishes granted to seriously ill children as part of the US charity Make-A-Wish.
He is the most popular celebrity that children from Make-A-Wish want to meet.
