Coronavirus: Premier league, EFL and WSL suspended until April

Elite football in England has been cancelled because of the coronavirus outbreak.

All Premier League, EFL, FA Women's Super League and Women's Championship games have been postponed until at least 3 April.

The Football Association said England's international friendly games against Italy and Denmark at the end of March had also been called off.

In Scotland, all professional leagues and grassroots football, including the Scottish Premier League, have been suspended until further notice.

Several clubs in the Premier League revealed players, coaches or club staff had been affected by coronavirus

Arsenal's manager Mikel Arteta has tested positive and the club's training ground has been closed.

Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi and an unnamed Everton player have also tested positive for the virus.

All three teams have asked their first team squads to self-isolate as a precaution.

Manchester City full-back Benjamin Mendy is also in isolation after a family member was taken ill and three Leicester City players have also self-isolated after showing symptoms of coronavirus.

What about football in Europe?

All Uefa competitions, including Champions League and Europa League matches due to be played next week, have also been put off because of the coronavirus outbreak.

This includes Manchester City v Real Madrid and Bayern Munich v Chelsea in the Champions League.

European football's governing body has called a meeting for Tuesday 17 March to discuss the response to the outbreak and the possible postponement of Euro 2020.

The London Marathon

The Marathon has also been postponed because of concerns over the coronavirus.

The world-famous running event, scheduled for 26 April, has been moved to October.
