Wrexham woman drowned trying to save dog in river - inquest

A woman drowned while trying to rescue her dog from a swollen river, an inquest opening has heard.
Gail Lloyd, 50, was walking with her husband and dogs along the River Clywedog at Felin Puleston, Wrexham, on 9 December.
Mrs Lloyd entered the river to try to save one of her dogs which had got into difficulty, the hearing in Ruthin, Denbighshire, was told.
Her husband jumped in to help her but was unable to reach her.
Passers-by managed to help Mr Lloyd out of the water but John Gittins, senior coroner for north Wales east and central, said Mrs Lloyd remained in the water.
She was declared dead at the scene by paramedics and pathologist Dr Mark Atkinson gave her provisional cause of death as drowning.
The inquest was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
