The Irish News has named Chris Sherrard as the new editor of the publication.
Mr Sherrard has worked in a variety of editorial roles at commercial news publisher company Reach PLC since 2009.
The 42-year-will replace Noel Doran, who is stepping down from his role as editor of the paper in April 2024, after 30 years with The Irish News.
The publication said that Mr Doran would still "continue to have a close association with the paper".
It was founded in 1891, and currently employs more than 130 people.
"As a long-time admirer and reader of the Irish News, it is my great honour to now edit this renowned newspaper," Mr Sherrard said of his appointment.
"The Irish News is an institution and it is an enormous privilege to be asked to lead a team of journalists known for their independent thinking, incisive analysis, and depth of quality coverage.
"The paper has a well-deserved reputation, built throughout the last century, of publishing journalism that matters and setting new records along the way."
Mr Sherrard told the paper he has the utmost respect for Noel Doran and said that following him as editor was "not only a great honour but also brings with it a responsibility I am keenly aware of".
Chief executive of Irish News owner IntoMedia, Dominic Fitzpatrick, said Mr Sherrard "brings strong experience in international and digital journalism".
He said finding a new editor for the publication was "a lengthy and thorough process looking at candidates from across the UK and Ireland".
