A Dublin-based energy company has bought the Firmus gas supply business in Northern Ireland.

Yuno Energy group has paid an undisclosed sum for the operation which serves 113,000 customers across Northern Ireland.

Customers do not have to take any action as a result of the change in ownership.

Firmus will continue to own and operate the Ten Towns gas network in Northern Ireland.

'Ready to stand alone'

Yuno Energy has been operating as a gas and electricity supplier in the Republic of Ireland since 2023.

It was founded by the energy entrepreneur Cathal Fay who also started PrepayPower, a prepay utilities company in the Republic.

Niall Martindale, the chief executive of Firmus energy distribution, said: "The supply business is now ready to stand alone, and we are confident it will go from strength to strength under the new ownership of Yuno Group.

鈥淲e will continue to own and operate the networks business, where our focus will be the continued growth of connections to our gas network, and the injection of renewable gases such as biomethane.鈥

The Firmus distribution business was sold by Equitix, a London-based infrastructure investor.
