A man has been charged with attempted murder after a man was injured in a shooting.

Firearms officers were called to the Headlam Green area of Byker, Newcastle, on Wednesday where a man in his 40s was found with injuries, not believed to be life-threatening.

A 50-year-old man, from Newcastle, has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, possession of a knife and having a corrosive substance in a public place.

He will appear before city magistrates on Saturday.

Northumbria Police said that a 21-year-old man also arrested in connection with the shooting will face no further action.
