An investigation is under way after a man suffered serious injuries at a fuel plant.

Police and the ambulance service were called to Greenergy Biofuels Teesside, on Seal Sands Road, near Middlesbrough, at about 09:00 BST on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the company confirmed a "full" investigation was under way.

The Health and Safety Executive said it was "aware" of the incident and was making inquiries.

The man was taken to James Cook University Hospital for treatment.

"We can confirm an incident took place on Tuesday 7 May at our Teesside biofuel plant," a spokesperson for Greenergy said.

"Ambulance were in attendance, and someone was taken to hospital."

The North East Ambulance Service said it had dispatched an ambulance crew, a specialist paramedic, a clinical team leader and a Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) to the scene.

It also requested support from the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS), who attended by road.
