Wilderness | Cairngorms

Cairngorms map

Â鶹Éç Copyright

The Cairngorms is one of the most mountainous landscapes in the UK, characterised by broad granite plateaux, steep sided glens and deep corries.

The animals on the Cairngorms are mountain specialists, and many have adapted to the cold climate.

Wilderness locations are good places to spot animals and plants which prefer to live in remote upland habitats with little human interference.

Getting there:

The main A9 road takes you through the heart of Aviemore and Spey Valley, but there is an alternative - to take the scenic route. The quick route from south is to follow the motorway to Perth, then journey up the A9 passing by the spectacular Grampian Mountains - this will take about two hours. Alternatively, from Glasgow, follow the A82 up the side of Loch Lomond, over Rannoch Moor and through Glencoe to Fort William and on to Spean Bridge. Then go by Glen Spean and Loch Laggan Into Badenoch at Newtonmore and follow the old A9 through the villages of Kingussie and Kincraig to Aviemore.

The Glenlivet Estate is located between the ladder and the Cromdale Hills in the Cairngorms National Park.
