Martin Mere in Lancashire is one of Britain's most important wetland habitats and is run by the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, the largest international wetland conservation charity in the UK.

After the loss of our wetlands, many are being restored. They are amongst the very best places for summer wildlife from birds to bugs.

  • Wetlands are a must for nature lovers. They are especially good for bird watching, bug spotting and pond dipping.

Essential kit:Binoculars and scopes. Walking shoes. Bird and insect identification guides. Magnifying glass for resting bugs.
Nature watching:

Special Barn Owl walks are organised by the reserve on occasional early evenings.

Facilities:Licensed cafeteria, children's play area, art/craft gallery, gift shop, picnic tables, bird hides, baby changing unit.
Access:

Excellent disabled access throughout the centre, including hides and toilet facilities.

Ìý

The reserve also offers free wheelchair loan, special parking area and materials for visitors with limited sight/hearing. Reduced rates for helpers and Guide Dogs allowed.

Getting there:

By car: Situated off the A59, Martin Mere is signposted from the M61, M58 and M6.

Rail: Served by the Southport to Manchester and Liverpool to Preston lines - alight at Burscough Station.

Car parking: Free car and coach parking available

Opening times:

Daily from 9.30am - 5.30pm (5pm November - February). Closed Christmas Day.

Charges:

Adult £6.00, Concessions (Students, Senior Citizens) £4.80, Child £3.80, Family Ticket £15.55.

Groups: Adult £5.00, Concessions (Students, Senior Citizens) £3.75, Child £2.80.

Free to WWT members.
