The Dog Channel is being run from a house in Oldham. It has a special dog doctor and features on everything from dog holidays to dogs who work.

Joanne Wall and Simon Norton are the couple behind the channel. They decided to set it up because of a shared love of all things canine, though Simon says the inspiration to get on-screen came from an unusual place.

Not every story is a happy one on The Dog Channel

"We were inspired by a guy who does a part-time channel on caravanning and camping. We were watching that and Joanne came up with the idea.

"So we mulled the idea over and sat there with a pen and paper, and the ideas just flew out of our minds.

"We put the word around to different dog organisations and dog forums, and the response was unbelievable. Every single person emailed back to say ‘yes, we do want a channel dedicated to dogs’. It just snowballed from there."

The channel is currently being shown on satellite television four times a week. It’s an impressive achievement, especially when you consider the fact that it is all being put together in the couple’s front bedroom, as Simon explains.

At present, the couple are producing everything in their spare time, but they’re hoping that it could become full-time next year.
