I
was dragged along against my will to see Willy Russell’s Blood
Brothers last week, expecting after such a long run, untouched
by directorial hand, that it would be tired and shabby. Not a bit
of it.
I can honestly say it was one of the best acted musicals I’ve seen
in the West End for a while.
Linda
Nolan movingly leads the rag-bag cast, assembled from the various
touring productions, as Mrs Johnstone forced by poverty to sell
one of her twins.
Guest
performers Sean Jones and Daniel Fine excelled as
the two, growing up in a class-divided 1980’s Liverpool and John
Payton was a young but menacing narrator.
The
music soared, the tiny audience and committed cast laughed and cried
together. Very special. Highly recommended.
