"The traditional method of constructing these jetties was to set a diagonal beam into the ceiling of the rooms on the corners of the house which would project out to carry the corner of the floor above.

But the High House was amongst those late 16th Century buildings, which were experimenting with new techniques of building jetties. In this case the top of each wall level, the beam at the top of each wall, was projected out without the use of a jetty. The carpenters were certainly wishing to display how they could use new techniques to achieve the same objective."
