Why do I need JavaScript and how do I enable it?

JavaScript is a common computer language used by many websites, including Â鶹Éç iPlayer, in order to run correctly.

If you already have JavaScript enabled but it is not recognised, try refreshing the page or clearing the browser cache. We also recommend you use one of the browsers we support for use with Â鶹Éç iPlayer.

How to enable JavaScript

Chrome on Desktop (on mobile it is always enabled)

  1. Go to Chrome Menu
  2. Click on Settings
  3. Click Privacy and SecurityÌý
  4. Select Site settings
  5. Scroll and select JavaScript
  6. Select Sites can use JavaScript

Safari on Mac OSX

  1. Launch Safari from your desktop or Dock
  2. From the main menu at the top of your screen, click Safari and then Preferences
  3. Click the Security icon
  4. In the Web content section, ensure that the Enable JavaScript check box has been checked
  5. Close this window

Safari on iOSÌý

  1. From a Home screen on your iPhone or iPad, navigate toÌýSettings then chooseÌý³§²¹´Ú²¹°ù¾±
  2. °Õ²¹±èÌýAdvanced. You may need to scroll down to find thisÌý
  3. Tap theÌýJavaScript switchÌýto turn on or off

Microsoft Edge

  1. Click the three dots in the upper right-hand corner of the browser window
  2. Select Settings from the drop-down menu
  3. Select Cookies and site permissions from the left-hand menu
  4. Underneath the All Permissions heading, select the JavaScript menu item
  5. Toggle the Allowed setting to the right so that the toggle turns blue
  6. Close the settings window and refresh your browser

Firefox

  1. In the URL type -Ìýabout:config
  2. In the search box type -Ìýjavascript
  3. Check javascript.enabled is set to true
