1857 - Born at Lower Broadheath near Worcester

1864 - Begins taking piano lessons

1869 - Begins taking violin lessons

1872 - First complete compositions: The Language of Flowers and Chantant
ÌýÌýÌýÌý
1878 - First attempt to write a symphony

1885 - Appointed organist at St. George's Church in Worcester, succeeding his father
ÌýÌý
1890 - Froissart played at the Three Choirs Festival
ÌýÌý
1892 - Serenade for Strings premiered

1898 - Operetta Caractacus premiered

1899 - Enigma Variations played for the first timeÌý

1900 - Premiere of The Dream of Gerontius

1914 - First gramophone recording as a conductor

1924 - Appointed Master of the Queen's Music

1931 - Elgar created 1st Baronet of Broadheath

1932 - Symphony number 3 started. Conducts Yehudi Menuhin in a recording of the violin concerto

1933 - Conducts for the last time at the Three Choirs Festival

1934 - Dies on the 23rd February in Worcester
