Bottling Out

Bottling Out

Helen Carlyle used to live in Malvern. She's written a series of hilarious poems in a book called Age Rage. Here's some of her work...

My glamour days are over,
And it's time to face the fact.
Those erstwhile raven tresses now
Are far more grey than black.

Today I saw two children
Looking for a conker tree.
One said, "Let's ask that old man over there."
And he meant ME!

The birds pretend they're crazy for
The smooth grey locks of age.
Don't kid yourself!ÌýIf something younger shows -
They'll flit the cage!

I'd often had this fancy
That in some way I'd be spared,
And by a miracle of fate
I'd always stay dark haired.

Tough action must be taken
Or my pulling days are past.
I'll have to 'hit the bottle',
And - I'll have to hit it FAST!
