Morgan Freeman is a wise professor ruminating about relationships in the drama Feast Of Love. His character Harry watches as local coffee shop owner Bradley (Greg Kinnear) loses his wife Kathryn (Selma Blair) to a lesbian, then falls for sexy estate agent Diana (Radha Mitchell). Meanwhile Bradley's idealistic young employees, Chloe and Oscar, start a romance of their own, and Harry reports all to his wife back home. It's sentimental stuff, but amusing in places.

Greg Kinnear has played this role many times before, but boy does he do it well. Blissfully blind to the unhappiness of his wife, Bradley switches from cheerful ignorance to hangdog self-pity, unaware of where he went wrong. Friend Harry maintains Bradley's wife just "fell in love", which is this drama's answer to most problems. It's simplistic in its portrayal of the relationship between Chloe and Oscar, and naive in its assertion that a house can bring "bad luck" to a couple, and that a cheap fortune teller can predict the future.

But Feast Of Love has its charms. Kinnear is funny, and Radha Mitchell is a knockout as sharp-dresser Diana, a conflicted woman who thinks Bradley might set her on the straight and narrow. And those in search of flesh won't be disappointed: this is surprisingly explicit for such a preachy drama. But Harry's patronising narration feels unnecessary: these characters should be able to speak for themselves. Feast Of Love is a mixed bag, but it's worth dipping into if you can swallow the sweet stuff.
