In Drink Drank Drunk (Chin Bui But Dzin), cynical Siu Min (Miriam Yeung) sells beer to restaurant diners so she never believes claims of undying love flung at her from beer-goggled admirers. Until, that is, easy-on-the-eye drifter Michel (Daniel Wu) falls into her life and she has to rethink. Light romantic froth is not director Derek Yee's strong point - following on from 2 Young, this is another a weak brew that, just like a bad pint, tastes bland and gassy.

The story is a muddle. Siu Min and Michel's relationship is strictly business - he runs an ailing French restaurant so she comes in to drum up customers. Inevitably, feelings between them grow but based on past experience and worried he will regain his wanderlust, Siu Min finds it difficult to trust Michel's inebriated I love you's. But the script suggests rather states these vital details, and picking them out from disjointed scenes that fit together like fuzzy memories of the night before is hard going. Eventually, a ruthless catering magnate threatens their dubious idyll but by this point it's hard to care.

"A FEW GIGGLY MOMENTS"

What should be the central plank of the film - that with her tremendous capacity for alcohol, Siu 'Ms Never Drunk' Min has never been drunk enough to express her true feelings - sinks halfway through, never to resurface and despite his co-writing credit Yee's direction rarely feels assured. There are a few giggly moments but if you reach the bottom of the glass you'll find that, for a film peppered with plenty of food and drink, it's surprisingly lacking in flavour.
