Laurence Dunmore

The Libertine

Interviewed by Adrian Hennigan

鈥I'm a British director, I'm meant to make a gangster film as my first movie 鈥

Laurence Dunmore has not taken the traditional route into directing. The Essex-born Brit spent ten years working in graphic design before venturing into the world of commercials (his most renowned arguably being a 2000 ad for the Commission for Racial Equality in which British personalities asked "Would you think differently about me?" as their ethnic origin changed). Now he's making his directorial debut with The Libertine, a deliciously debauched look at the life of 17th-century scoundrel John Wilmot (aka the Earl of Rochester, aka Johnny Depp).
